That's just a total coincidence that oil SHOT up in price immediately after an oil man took up residence in the White House! Who cares why Cheney met secretly with the oil companies several years ago?!! There is no connection! No way!! The liberals won't let us drill! and Clinton is the devil!!!!!!!! ;-x

Good post Engineer, I hope that after Obama withdraws troops, oil becomes cheap just like in the Clinton era.

Note the position of "U.S. invades Iraq" on the time-line.
Immediately before the huge rise in oil prices begins.

There is something obscene about a corporation reporting quarterly multi-billion dollar profits and then 'crying poor' when they are criticized for the continuing upward spiral in the price per barrel of oil. They can make all the excuses in the world but as far as I am concerned the oil companies rank below used car salesmen and George Bush in popularity polls and at the absolute bottom as far as believeability is concerned.
Assuming Congress has the balls to do so, how about creating a windfall profits tariff? If the bill is written with a little forethought I'm sure there can be a provision that prevents the cost from being passed on to the consumer (us). And if they're really smart they will figure out a way to refund their windfall profits to the consumer.
At what point does the oil cartel feel they will have enough money to control the economies (and politics) of most of the countries in the world that depend on oil to drive their economies?

Does anyone have any concept of Basic Economics?! Do you know the difference between Profit, and Profit Margin? No one seems to understand a very basic principal - "Big Oil" makes less than $0.40 per gallon on their INVESTMENT (finding, drilling, refining, delivering oil). The Government makes over $0.50 per gallon for doing NOTHING! So tell me - Who should you direct your animosity towards? The people who actually produce a product and make a profit, or the ones who simply sit back and take your money?! Why is no one demanding that Congress drop Gasoline Taxes?!
Between the time President Bush came into office and the 2006 elections, the price of gas went from approximately $1.47 to $2.16 per gallon - a $0.70 increase. From the time just after the 2006 elections to now, the price has gone to $4.25 - a $2.09 increase. The same people who blame the President for everything, have nothing to say about the Democrat Congress.
