I'm a little uncomfortable with your characterization of this problem being the fault of "the politicians". While I'm aware that Big Oil contributes to both political parties, it has long been a far bigger contributer to the GOP, it is the GOP that has given the oil companies billions of your tax dollars in subsidies and it's been the GOP that's met secretly with energy companies to draft energy policy. It's far from fair to lump both parties together.
