We pay Uncle Sam the same no matter where we live, but property, gasoline, tobacco, sales and state income taxes are all over the map.

The differences can be extreme. An Alaskan keeps 7 cents more of every dollar than a Vermonter, once cities and the state have grabbed their share.

Factor in federal tax and the gap grows even wider. Those who earn more money generally pay a greater percentage of it in federal taxes, so states with a greater percentage of highly paid workers end up paying more.

The state in which residents pay the most in combined state, local and federal taxes, per capita, is Connecticut (38.3%), followed by New York (37.1%), New Jersey (35.6%) and Nevada (35.2%). Oklahoma residents pay the least (27.8%), followed by those in Alabama (28.0%) and Alaska (28.1%).

Oh my. Liberals say otherwise. Why would liberals lie?

Check the tax rate of Capital Gains; around 11%- you know, where the ultra wealthy make their real money.

If deferred (through various methods) there is NO annual taxation!

Yes, its good to be the king.

Yeap repukes just borrow and spend, spend, spend and then spend some more! Wait we are in the fiscal budget meltdown... Oh and guess what, McInsane proposing some more tax cuts.

We need balanced budget, something republicans were only b.s. ing about.

Important info - Beer Tax - Now that I know NY [ where I'm at]

is one of the lowest , I don't feel so bad about getting raped on every other tax .

I wish my entire tax burden was only 38.3% of my income. Hell, I'd be dancing in the streets!

Of course, with averages, some are paying more and some are paying less....

38% is nothing, hold on to your wallet if Obama gets elected it will be 52.5% just read his web site and add it up

Blah blah blah. It's amazing how quickly the GOP grabs onto tactics of fear and lies.

When I was a kid, I was told Nixon would be the only President that would stop kids from going to school on Saturday and Sunday. The others would force us to.

What kid could hate Nixon?

I expect that kind of fear from a school child, not from a grown adult (check his ID to make sure).

I think NORTH CAROLINA has one of the best deals on taxes, no wonder so many people move to NC, but SC has a better climate. Weather wise South Carolina is best on the east coast.

Dionys it's the fear of paying for your idiocy, O'bama 10.5% ss tax with no cap, 38% middle income tax and a 2.5 medicare tax do the math, thats 51% not including state income tax sales tax gas tax do I need to go on. DIONYS I think anyone who is a registered GOP member should be exempt from the tax burden your candidate will bring to the middle class, you should pay for it.

It's called fiscal responsibility. Something you republicons can't imagine. Someone has to pay for your stupidity. Then there is the peace dividend.

Does it EVER occur to any politician to evaluate ineffective programs and give them the axe?

"Then there is the peace dividend" What peace dividend?? Haven't you been paying attention?? All 3 in the running for the presidency are leaving some troops in Iraq - Clinton and Obama talk about strike forces.

Clinton and Obama want to send MORE troops to Afghanistan

Hmm, like Iraq?

>All 3 in the running for the presidency are leaving some troops in Iraq - Clinton and Obama talk about strike forces.

McCain talking about keeping 140k troops for 100 years ("as long as no get's killed. Yeah right, he must be thinking we are stupid").

Obama and Hil talking about immediate troop reductions. Forcing useless and ineffective Iraqes government get off they a* and do something.

>Clinton and Obama want to send MORE troops to Afghanistan

If we can get out of repuking mess, we could send some forces to Afghanistan and find that a Ossama.

"Clinton and Obama want to send MORE troops to Afghanistan"

Duh..of coarse they do.Something Bushboy should have done years ago but has been to stupid to do.Afghanistan and western Pakistan is where the real enemy is,not Iraq.

I am not the smartest person so maybe i don't understand all of this. But i am not blind.Clinton,Gas :$.88 a gal.Bushboy :Gas $3.29 a gal.Clinto... Trillion dollars in debt and no end in sight.

Simple right.I didn't mind paying taxes when Clinton got into office for several reasons,it was paying down our debt(i have children and that is important to me),there were plenty of high paying jobs(not the Burger king,McDonalds type of jobs that bush boy has made),Fiscal responsibility.

We were better off,period.

Should only GOP members be responsible for the irresponsible spending of the administration over the last 7 years?

Any Democrat elected will have to raise taxes to cover the insane deficits of the fiscally irresponsible Repugs. They spend & the Dems gotta pay for it.

Reagan, Bush I & Bush 1 1/2 have accumulated more national debt than all the debt accumulated in the entire history of the U.S.

The worst state is the granola state of California. Full of fruits, nuts, and wackos. Its a haven for illegal immigration, and the biggest welfare state full of onerous taxes and regulations. Please don't come to California, otherwise you will never be able to leave.

It's also Conservative.

YOur insane! Cali is not conservative, Arnold may be a Republican but he IS NOT a conservative.

Thomnh62, I agree with you. GOP members should be exempt from tax burdens imposed by the democrats' candidate. We all need for our government to stay out of our business and reduce taxes.

How liberal of you - the GOP has reached into the nebulae to create obscene debt & deficits & now you want to absolve them of that & make those who are fiscally responsible pay for it. Sounds like an entitlement for Reps to me.

Here in Wyoming we have no state income tax. Now if we could just get rid of the federal tax and go to a comsumption tax. I HATE WRITING CHECKS TO THE IRS!!

well miklkit if we elect a dem thats what we will continue to have, GWB wasw handed a golded opportunity to direct this country in a fiscally resposible direction with a GOP house and senate and he blew it, but Hillary or O'bama will continue down this road, they will not pull out of Iraq and anyone who thinks so is not listening to their own words.

avatar

THOMNH62 - the reality is that because of Bush no one who becomes president will be able to do a quick exit from Iraq. Sadaam kept Iran at bay for many years, if we pullout Iran will just roll in on the freeway we created & then our real problems will begin.

Iran is Muslim but not Arabic & it's only interest in the area is domination

don't you think republicans are due, you have had welfare for generations I think it is our turn. As far as getting out of Iraq, I never advocated going in the first place. Bush blew a chance to chow this country and the world how a responsibly lead fiscally conservative government can function. Instead we got a war, followed by 4$ a gallon gas, the republican base who has the guts to admit it are more outraged at his spending than anyone. I just don't think the alternative is Obama, or Hillary and not really convinced McCain has a desire to change it.

You need to talk to the big corporations about sharing their welfare checks with you. Just tell them you're a Republican. They love you guys.
