Think Americans Are Debt-Ridden Fools? Check Out The British

Money – Funny, smart, original piece from former Sr CNN producer/writer--who skewers British consumers for their profligate spending-debt habits. Author rips debt-ridden "victims" reported in recent NY Times--comically (sarcastically) using so-called (invented) "Britishisms" to rebuke them. Not for everybody; intentionally over the top

What is so funny is that.

People buy into the hey I deserve all this junk to make me seem important.

They seem to have no clue that when one defaults it has the domino effect. You don't pay your bills, the guy you owe may not be able to pay his...

Greed what a wonderful picture of self absorbed importance. Keep on spending whether it is needed or not. At least you appear to be rich and prosperous.

Empty paper bags is all they are and their heads contain a volume of air.

What is even funnier or depressing is that people who get themselves into this kind of pickle try to blame government or the "rich" for their bad choices.

Simple is better. Let's lend money only to people who can prove that they can pay. Let's let the economy come to a screeching halt, it will find a new way to grow on its own. The only problem is that the people who are expecting returns on the money they own are going to receive less, because free people will work less. I, for example, will not put up with a lot of s**t that I have to put up with now.

According to a survey, less than the half of the population saves regularly, and more than 39 percent said they would rather enjoy a good standard of living today rather than save for retirement....

Jaydee40, Neo and the rest must be going out of their minds over this. That they can't attack America over this. This most be lies, lies and more lies from the greedy corporations in America. These are lies from Bush. It's a conspiracy this can't be true. It's the ugly, ugly Americans. It must be Americans there the worst. Booo hoooo, wwwhhhaaa.

How do you get that, I posted that info about a year ago. As I said then based on per capita America as a nation carries more debt than G.B. but when it comes to private debt the British carry more than the US. So why would something I posted with links to prove it bother me? You see while you like to think my posts are just mindless rants out of jealousy or ignorants I do tend to look my facts up before commenting on them unlike some others here. The sad part is three people agreed with you.

I do feel sorry for the people who got duped about their mortgages or borrowing capacities. There's lots of blame to go around there. But the kinds of people in the story, who just think they can buy & borrow whatever they want and deal with it later, or never...they ought to face some accountability as well. Not to say they should be miserable and their families at risk. But at some point you have to take responsbility. They don't need 50 pairs of shoes or the best car or kitchen appliances, whatever. It's not rocket science to understand you ought to save more for the future, to not borrow when you're already in debt and then spend the latest amount on luxuries. There are tons of people who got screwed. But there are also some who just acted like idiots; and the idiots IMO don't deserve great sympathy.
