Kloza cited refinery problems. Recent flooding closed down a Coffeyville Resources refinery in southeast Kansas, and resulted in problems for a Valero refinery in Ardmore, Okla. Plus, a BP refinery in Whiting, Ind., near Chicago, also are contributing to high wholesale prices.

"It looked like we were on a relatively smooth path for about a month," Kloza said. "But having some operational problems on the heels of a refinery being under water and lost for a considerable amount of time has sent the market into kind of paroxysm."
"Keep in mind gasoline is a commodity, and it follows the laws of supply and demand," he said. "Anytime when supply is interrupted and the demand is strong, that is usually the perfect formula for in this case higher gas prices."
"Overnight, oil and gas futures rose on concerns about gasoline production."

stoners,
Re: "It looked like we were on a relatively smooth path for about a month"
Last night I was going to fill up my tank, but then I thought I'd wait until the next morning. With that thought in mind, I could PM you about what the current gas prices are or where they might be heading.
Seeing how you constantly post gasoline stories every week, I figured "who would know better about current gas prices than stoners!" ; ]
And by golly, today, you post another gasoline story. lol
Stoners, just between me and you and the rest of us, how much profit are you raking in, based on your Puts and Calls strategy for oil stocks?? lol

OMG PEOPLE...Are you kidding me here...If I had stocks in Oil or Gasoline do you really think I would be on Netscape waisting my time...Get a clue and if you tried reading the stories then you would clearly see that they arent the same and they ARE DIFFERENT... And besides you can just move on to the next story if you dont like reading about the daily changes. You do have the option to sink them as well ;];];]

That's the real problem and the shame. Most cities that had good public transportation let it go to pot under the influence of the auto and oil lobbies, and many never had it.
Now, who will build it? This is one of those areas where private industry just doesn't want to invest.

Americans will not go for it. We are so very used to the big cars and SUVs. We will never learn until it just too late and then we complain about it. Since I retired I don't use the car that much anymore. Pretty soon I will get a smaller car only because I need a new one anyway.

I know it will go up more here, I'm only about 3 miles from that Whiting, IN. refinery, and on Monday gas was $2.94 here, by this afternoon it was $3.29 because the Whiting BP refinery is down for maintainance. And it still seems to elude many people that although the oil compainies are making a large profit, that for every penny the oil companies make in profit three times that go for taxes. In Cook County, where Chicago is, they have Federal tax, state tax, sales tax, county tax, and city tax on gas.

NO drilling. We need to get OFF of the oil addiction, should have a long time ago.
Some environmental issues have stalled the building of some refineries, but if you do some research you will find that oil companies THEMSELVES have closed down refineries and have refused to build more. That way, they can control the price by whining that they don't have the "capacity" for supply and demand.

How did you get to work today bubba? How did you get home? That is the problem right now that has caused the oil crisis. Everyone is bitching and moaning about driving less and not having SUV's but yet they still drive their SUV's everywhere.
If we drilled more and built more refining capacity we would not have this oil crisis.

Prohibited?! Where the hell are you getting that BS?
The Clean Air Act of 1990 is extremely restrictive, but hardly prohibitive.
A bigger factor was the removal of federal refinery subsidies in 1981 - between then and 2004 the number of refineries in the US dropped from 315 to 144.
And don't look for oil companies to break ground on new refineries any time soon. They are dealing in a commodity that has essentially been given a death sentence, and they see a closing window of profitability (maybe ten years, maybe thirty) in which to make as much money as possible. Needless to say, that doesn't include spending 50 or 75 million dollars on a new refinery.

Yesterday in northwest PA, the price started at $2.89. By end of day, it was $2.95. Not seen today's prices, but I am sure they are higher. It would seem that we have never recovered from Hurricane Katrina, and the new hurricane season is upon us. Either we need additional, cleaner refineries, or we need a new source of energy.

yesterday morning it was 3.19 then a few hours later 3.28, then this morning 3.09 STOP IT!!!!
We have very limited public transportation, fairly new busses, but the routes are horrible. Bad planning.

Poor Coffeyville, they could stop the Dalton Bros. but they couldn't stop the flooding.

This is old news !
Commodity Traders to the rescue , if the Commodity Traders did not see such an easy buck this would not happen .
We are still paying for Katrina , I see Japan is going to use Kelp or Rice for bio-fuel , watch out Uncle Ben's (instant rice) and Health Food Supplements will sky rocket if left to the Commodity Traders .

Looks like they have us assuming the position over the barrel again. I'm tired of getting screwed but I guess I'll have to stop using Vaseline to ease the pain which, as you know, is a petroleum product. If enough of us stop using Vaseline maybe it could be redirected to create gasoline. (Sarcasm intended)

Someone from this group of STONERS supporters sent me a PM that was kind of threating , I would like to say although I do from time to time make comments about one individual I do not threaten in any way , nor will I ever , I do however get annoyed at a certain individual's constant posting of repetitive content stories on one subject , over and over , week after week , month after month .
Last time I checked I lived in America and had freedom of speech .
What is that Amendment ? Was it first or second , or third ?
I do realize they have the right to comment on what they want to as well , but don't threaten individuals .

You are stalking him as an anchor pointed out "if you don't like the story don't vote for it or comment on it. Post something that counters it."
The two comments you've made so far on this thread have be tame compared to what you normally post.
Must be nice that you are not concerned about the rising cost of gasoline. For myself and the rest of it 3.29 is a real concern.
So post something that you agree with about the gasoline prices. Last time I checked Netscape is posting stories for and against Global Warming. Pros and Cons about LIVE EARTH.

Buy oil company stocks. If you had done that when I first mentioned it months ago, you'd be up 30%, plus dividends.
What's it gonna be like in 5 years? In 10 years?
We'll see $200 barrel oil by then. Go with the flow.

No, no, no! I have worked for over 15 years designing and building nuclear power plants for Bechtel Power and believe me this is an environmental horror story.
Most people only see the operational success of the nuclear power industry, they do not even examine or think about it's wast material. Material which is colorless, orderless, tasteless and has a half life of 5,000 years. And what are we doing with it? We are bearing it; hopping that are children can dispose of it without kill everyone!
Give me gas; give me coal; give me anything but nuclear power.

We don't even need to. We're sitting on assloads of oil. And sitting is all we'll be doing if the environmentalists continue to have their way.
Gas too $$$? The answer is to build refineries and drill for oil. If we did more of it domestically, the oil shieks wouldn't be living in gold pallaces.
I have one word for you people who think there's gouging or oil consipiracies. Stocks. Buy XOM if you really believe what you're saying.

Did anyone think that the oil companies wouldn't find an excuse to get the prices back up? They creat their own shortages by shutting down refineries, "unplanned outages" as they call them. Got to keep the stock holders happy and the CEO's in their limos. One excuse after the other. Please send Vaseline and a rectal thermometer. My rearend is connected to my optic nerve and I have a really crappy outlook on big oil companies.

Its already $3.70 here in the bay area.
These prices have nothing to do with supply or demand. The War imposes a speculative price pressure.
THe Profits made by the Oil companies are taxed and so you get to pay for the war at the pump.
If we were winning in Iraq Gas would be .99 cents a gallon.

Sorry to say this, but if everyone in the major urban areas are going to run around with just one person in each car gas will never come down in price.
