youre probably right. most americans dont know that its been that high in europe for years (convert litres to gallons then do the exchange rate and youll find theyve been paying $3 US or better for a while)... i think that opec and the us oil companies have simply decided that the US no longer gets a discount. opec said years ago that they want americans paying the same as the rest of the world

The oil companies in Iran are nationalized. Their oil output is going down rapidly.
The oil companies in Venezuela have been nationalized. Oil output is going down rapidly.
Lower output means higher prices.
Nationalization will cause higher prices because decisions are political not economic. Of course prices will be lowered at first. And then the "saboteurs" will start damaging the infrastructure.
There was a time when America had price controls on oil. That lead to shortages. Once price controls were eliminated shortages disappeared.
Venezuela has price controls on food. Food is disappearing from stores. Companies are refusing to sell food at below costs.
Price controls and nationalization always result in inefficiency, waste fraud, and worst of all pollution.
You can sue companies for the bad things they do. Governments not so much.

So why isn't some company willing to sell it for $2.54 and make a killing? All it takes is a %.05 difference and people will come running.
Probably because the price of oil is going up and to get the next refill gasoline stations will have to pay more. So they jump the prices in order to be able to do the next refill.
You have two choices. Fixed prices and shortages or variable prices and abundance.

Don't you know that spring is almost here. People want to take long rides and of course the oil companies what to make sure they get there just rewards for you riding around. Like I have always said, Profits,Profits,Profits. That is all they care about. It doesn't matter how they #CREW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Same ballpark here in Seattle. Would LOVE to see $2.40! For those freaking at the idea of a $3 summer - A gasoline economist in California yesterday said it was more probable we would see a $4 summer.

What happened to the 2.06 a gallon just a few months ago? It has gone up .13 cents in one week here. Wouldn't everybody like to increase their income in the same manner as the oil companies..Just plain WRONG...

Feb was a bad month and people are now refilling their heating oil tanks.
So demand for heating oil spikes when the refineries are trying to make more gasoline for spring. This leads to less gasoline when supplies should be increasing.
Thus prices rise until supply and demand are in balance.
It is too bad they don't teach economics in school.

great.........just great........ i thought i was really living when my tank was full at $27.00!!!!! guess that was short lived....hahah oh well back to square one with saving extra money!!!! :) hey at least my car still does not cost as much as a huge SUV!!

Monopolies can dictate any price they want. I would be surprised if by midsummer that the price at the pump will be less than $3.69 per gallon.

Last fall the price went up because they said the winter blends were more expensive to produce.Now they say that the summer blends are the more expensive.Big oil has been getting away with this crap for years.Of course it's even easier when you have friends in the highest places.When does thier war on terrorists get to these domestic thieves?

What about big pharma. Big telco. And worst of all big cable.
There is only one major aircraft producer in America.
Plus how about big computer. Big auto. Water and sewer monopolies. Big garbage. Man I have a list.
Once a company gets big the government should buy it and run it. Then we will have low prices and high wages.

Big Computer?
Awhile back I paid $1200 for a PC. It died a couple months ago.
My current Computer, has a higher speed Processor, more RAM, and bigger Hard-drive, in fact you could multiply each of the old numbers by 4, and you would be close to what I have now.
FOR $435!!!
And no it isn't a home-built.

last week it was 2.85 a gallon, as of yesterday it was 3.10, it's horrible to see a five cents raise from the time you see it in the morning to the time you see it comin home.
